Free motorcycle up for grabs in blood drive
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — El Pasoans have a chance to win a free motorcycle this weekend, all while helping save lives.
The 15th United Blood Services/Barnett Harley Davidson Summer Blood Drive kicks into high gear, starting Friday.
Since partnering in January of 2006, U.B.S. and Barnett have collected 9,746 pints, and are hoping to break 10,000 pints this weekend.
The drive comes at a time when donations are at their lowest, because U.B.S. receives 35 percent of its blood donations when high school and college students are in session, said U.B.S. of El Paso spokesperson Luann Wieland.
"So when they're not in session, we have a harder time keeping up with fresh blood and an ample supply," said Wieland.
Donors will stand to benefit, with free food, drinks, ice cream, t-shirts and a goody bag with Harley-Davidson items and coupons.
Above all, each donor will be entered for a chance to win a 2013 XL883L Super Low Sportster motorcycle.
Organizers are hoping donors can speed up the process by filling out a questionnaire online at unitedbloodservices.org.
Donors must fill out the questionnaire online the same day they plan to donate.
The event runs Friday through Sunday at the Barnett Harley Davidson of El Paso, 8272 Gateway Blvd. East, and the Barnett Las Cruces, 2600 Lakeside Dr.
Both locations will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. However, Barnett Las Cruces will only be open until 4 p.m. Sunday.
