Four More Schools Report Cases Of Scabies

The number of kids with scabies is growing. Tonight, there's news of the first case reported in the El Paso School District. NewsChannel 9 has learned one student at Burlesson Elementary is infected with scabies. It's a skin infection caused by mites. It's highly contagious and is showing up at more and more school in the Borderland.

According to EPISD school administrators, parents will be notified by mail. Right now EPISD is calling this an "isolated" case and says workers at Burleson have done some special cleaning to try to prevent the spread of the illness.

In the Ysleta Independent School District more kids are sick and we've learned scabies is spreading to even more campuses. The new cases reported are at Marion Manor Elementary, Vista Hills Elementary and Bel Air High School. Here's the breakdown of the cases reported at YISD:

Ascarate Elementary: 16 confirmed cases

Cedar Grove Elementary: 2 confirmed cases

Marion Manor Elementary: 1 confirmed case

Vista Hills Elementary: 1 confirmed case

Desert View Middle School: 1 confirmed case

Parkland Middle School: 1 confirmed case

Riverside Middle School: 3 confirmed cases

Bel Air High School: 1 confirmed case

Riverside High School: 3 confirmed cases

YISD Staff: 4 teachers and 1 bus monitor
