Fort Bliss Soldier Killed in Water Accident

Fort Bliss officials have released the name of a soldier who died Saturday in Corsicana, Texas, from injuries sustained in a water accident. He is identified as Spc. Mason T. Moore III. No additional details were provided on the incident. He is survived by his wife and son.

"Charlie Company, 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, suffered a tremendous loss," said Capt. Lorenzo J. Aponte, Charlie Company commander. "Sgt. Moore was remarkable in so many ways. He lived his life to the fullest and touched so many people during his time with us. We all have memories that defined Sgt Moore; memories that we will always hold dear. We continue to keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers."

The twenty-seven-year-old specialist was from Frost, Texas and entered active-duty service in August of 2006, as a light wheeled vehicle mechanic. He arrived at Fort Hood in June of 2008, and assigned to 407th, 4th Infantry Division Heavy Brigade Combat Team. His last assignment was with Charlie Company, 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade in Fort Bliss where he had been since October of 2009.

Mason's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal 3 Bronze Oak Leaves, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon Numeral 2, NATO Service Medal, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Driver Wheeled Vehicle Badge and Driver Track Vehicle Badge.

A unit Memorial Service will be held on Fort Bliss at a later date.
