EL PASO- Fort Bliss honors fallen soldier Jalfred D. Vaquerano.

Vaquerano was engaged and had planned to marry in August. Vaquerano was from Apopka, Florida and died December 13th when his unit took small arms fire from the enemy. He was just 20 years old and was looking forward to marrying his long time love, Katie. Today's memorial service gave fellow soldiers a chance to say goodbye.

"P.F.C. Vaqerano was a very good soldier, I mean he was a soldier that was very striking. I remember when he got on the plane to Afghanistan and I shook his hand. I think it was his eyes that were most striking. In fact his nick name was pretty eyes," said Major General Dana J.H. Pittard, Commanding General of 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss.

General Pittard wants to remind us that a solider's life serves our freedom. "The sacrifice of soldiers like P.F.C. Vaquerano we must honor that sacrifice. Remember at all times that as we enjoy the freedoms and what's happening here in America there's somebody out there protecting our interest and making sure we can live free."

I thank "pretty eyes" for his sacrifice and give my deepest condolences to his fiancée and family. No greater love has man than to lay down his life for his friends. May God receive this hero into his everlasting peace.
