Fort Bliss Holds Memorial For Spc. Edward Acosta

FORT BLISS, TEXAS — A memorial ceremony for Spc. Edward Acosta is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 at 10 a.m. The Fort Bliss Community will hold the event at Center Chapel.
Spc. Acosta, 21, of Hesperia, Calif., died March 5, in La Jolla, Calif., of injuries sustained the previous December when his vehicle was struck by an improvised-explosive device in Wardak province, Afghanistan.
He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
Acosta's awards include the Bronze Star Medal (Posthumous), the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Combat Medic Badge.
Specialist Acosta is survived by his wife, Lindsay Acosta and his infant daughter, Emmalyn Acosta.
"Team Bliss and the 1st Armored Division mourns the loss of an outstanding Soldier; we are keeping Specialist Edward Acosta's family, friends, and fellow Soldiers in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," said Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard, Commanding General, 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss. "He was a fighter and gave his life on behalf of our nation."
