Former Ysleta school board trustee Linda Chavez, along with Marc Schwartz, an employee of "Access Health Source" pled guilty to federal corruption charges.

The FBI started investigating Schwartz and his company "Access Health Source" in the early 2000s. It's safe to say those involved didn't think the FBI was wire-tapping their conversations.

Schwartz pleaded guilty to giving money to two public officials in exchange for a promise that his company would provide health insurance for EPISD, Socorro ISD and YISD employees in addition to employees of El Paso County.

He admitted to paying members of the EPISD school board, along with members of the Socorro ISD and Ysleta ISD school boards. This included Linda Chavez money in the form of checks and other kick-backs in order to secure their votes.

The U.S. government says "Access Health Source" was never the first choice of the YISD board, so Schwartz did whatever he could in his power to bribe board members. Linda Chavez was one who agreed.

Former Socorro mayor Ray Rodriguez was also supposed to stand before a judge this afternoon, but that did not happen.

Both Schwartz and Chavez pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal.
