Former Sunland Park Mayor-elect Daniel Salinas released from jail

LAS CRUCES — A former Sunland Park Mayor-elect charged with fraud, conspiracy, and extortion was released from jail.
District Court Judge Darren Kugler granted a bond reduction motion for Daniel Salinas.
The 29-year-old allegedly tried to blackmail one of his opponents with the release of a video of him with a topless dancer and is also accused of bribery.
Salinas has been behind bars for the last 10 months.
Judge Kugler decided to reduce bond because of a conflict of interest with the District Attorney.
The State Attorney General may end up having to prosecute the case.
