A former Socorro superintendent shared his thoughts about the four employees placed on administrative leave at a special board meeting Tuesday night -- following an audit of the district.

Xavier De La Torre said he found the decision "disappointing."

"There's absolutely no way that anybody can convince me that they intentionally would attempt to promote cheating or circumvent the processes around the state assessment," said De La Torre.

He served as superintendent of Socorro ISD between 2009 and 2012, and worked with Pat O'Neill, SISD assistant superintendent for administrative services, Cynthia Lopez, assistant superintendent, Rebecca O'Neill, assistant superintendent for elementary education, and Holly Fields, assistant superintendent of 21st Century Learning.

De La Torre is no longer with the SISD -- he left for a similar position in California last year.

"I'm really disappointed that the board, with the recommendation of the current superintendent, recommended placing those people on paid administrative leave," said De La Torre.

One local we spoke with agreed.

"It's unnecessary because they should have trust in their own people," said Jose Fuentes.

SISD board members have not released any information about how they will move forward with their investigation.

At the special meeting Tuesday night, Socorro ISD superintendent, Dr. Jose Espinoza, suggested that an outside legal team be hired to determine whether or not these employees were purposely involved in the discrepancies.

Former administrators such as De La Torre are only looking out for themselves. They need to realize what the word former means. What he and other former administrators are really worried about is how this will make them look which is sullied at best and Guilty at their worst.
