Former Las Cruces Police Detective indicted on charges
Former Detective Michael Garcia who was initially arrested on August 23, 2013 for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor, and was arrested a second time on September 4, 2013 with ten additional charges related to allegedly sexually assaulting another young girl was indicted on Thursday in both cases.
Thursday morning, Garcia was indicted on Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Person in position of Authority) and Criminal Sexual Penetration in the Third Degree. Late Thursday September 26th, 2013, Michael Garcia was indicted on all charges filed on the second case of sexual assault which include Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration in the First Degree (Child Under 13), Two Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Child Under 13), and Six Counts of Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor in the Second Degree (Person in Position of Authority).
Garcia is due to appear in court on October 15 to enter a plea in both cases. He remains free on $50,000 secured bond in the first case and $20,000 secured bond in the second case.
