Former judge to be sentenced on corruption charges
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — A former El Paso County judge will learn next week whether he'll serve jail time for accepting bribes while in office. Anthony Cobos will be sentenced January 3rd.
Cobos voted to award a financial services contract to company Bear Stearns to refinance $40 million of the county's debt, in exchange for money. He was arrested in 2011 and later pleaded guilty .
Federal prosecutors have recommended Cobos and local architect Lorenzo Hilario Aguilar serve four years in prison. Aguilar arranged the $1500 bribe to Cobos.
