Wilmington, DELAWARE— The body of a government official whom served in two Bush Administrations was found in a landfill early Monday morning.

The body of John Wheeler III, 66, of New Castle, was found at the Cherry Island Landfill after a garbage truck bringing back a load from Newark, Del. An employee saw the body falling out of a truck and onto a trash pile. Investigators believe the body was in one of the first of ten dumpsters picked up from Newark.

The Delaware medical examiner's office has ruled the death a homicide, though no cause of death has been released.

Wheeler was a special assistant to the Air Force Secretary during the Bush administration from 2005 to 2008. He was also a Vietnam War veteran and a defense contractor during the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush as well. Wheeler was also a past chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund which built the Washington memorial.
