Former Bowie Principal Resigns
EL PASO — Former Bowie High School Principal Jesus Chavez resigned from his central office position Monday. Chavez was hired as principal of Bowie by former Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia. Chavez was ousted from his job in April after he allegedly admitted to playing a role in the district's cheating scandal. He was temporarily reassigned to a central office job and was hoping to be reassigned as a principal for another high school in the district.
EPISD has come under pressure lately by the Texas Education Agency and others to fire those associated with Garcia's scheme. Board president Isela Castanon-Williams acknowledged the urgency in a statement Monday saying the "school district is working diligently to restore the public's trust that was lost as a result of Lorenzo Garcia's actions."
EPISD also announced a special meeting scheduled for Thursday where they will consider firing another district administrator, Myrna Gamboa, accused of changing student's grades.
