Flood Victims Ask For Prayers, Donations

EL PASO - Prayers and donations. That's what the Ramos Court flood victims asked for Sunday afternoon.

The families teamed up with "Operation Hope" and held a prayer vigil in the Lower Valley. Many of them are still in hotels and trying to rebuild their lives. That's because, last month, a breach in the Franklin Canal sent water rushing into their homes. The flood destroyed most, if not all, of their belongings and severely damaged their homes, some to the point they may have to be condemned.

"The community is coming together, and it does touch my heart and I'm sure it touches all the residents here," flood victim Ron Navejas said.

"The city as a whole needs to step up to the plate. These are our brothers and sisters, just because we are sitting back in an air conditioned living room watching this newscast right now doesn't mean that these people have air conditioner or a cold refrigerator to get an ice water or soft drink," Angel Gomez, with "Operation hope," said.

Gomez says "Operation Hope" is trying to get 10 refrigerators and 10 stoves for the Ramos Court families. They're also trying to work with the county to get extra assistance.
