An investigation is underway at a Socorro ISD Elementary School after a five year-old child somehow ended up off campus on the Tigua Reservation. It happened Tuesday at Campestre Elementary School.

SISD officials say the kindergarten student somehow got on the wrong bus and was dropped off about a mile away from the school at the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Library. The child was quickly found unharmed, but by that time staff at the school was frantically searching for the child.

"Obviously we take it extremely seriously. We want to make sure the trust of parents coming to us as a school district to take care of their kids to make sure they're safe and secure that we follow through with that commitment to them," said Daniel Escobar, the spokesperson for the district.

The district is now reviewing its safety procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

SISD officials response to this incident is scary. It's obvious that they do not take student safety seriously enough. Thank God that the boy is safe & back with his family. Additional training should be afforded to the bus driver because it took another student to alert the driver that there was another student still on the bus! At my childrens school, the bus driver DOES Not let students onto the bus that are not assigned to that bus & teachers escort students to their bus. Wake up SISD!
