UPDATE: El Paso firefighters rescued a 21-year-old hiker from the top of one of the Franklin Mountains.

The hiker separated from his friends and called 9-1-1 just after 4 p.m. Saturday and said he could not get down from a trail on the northeast side of the mountain.

After four and a half hours, firefighters brought the man to safety.

He was not injured.
 

ORIGINAL: El Paso firefighters were working to rescue a 21-year-old hiker from the northeast side of Transmountain.

They made contact with the man who they said needed help getting down a trail at about 4:05 p.m. Saturday.

They said he was not injured.
