Firefighters quickly contain forest fire near Cloudcroft
Cloudcroft, NM (KTSM) — Firefighters have controlled a fire that started Sunday morning in the Lincoln National Forest.
The Chippeway Fire was reported at 10:46 a.m. Sunday and was burning five miles southeast of Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
According to forest officials, the fire burned half an acre and no structures were ever threatened.
The Otero County Volunteer Fire Department initially responded, and was assisted by U.S. Forest Service firefighters, who will continue to patrol the area over the next few days.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
