Firefighters Issue Holiday Warning
EL PASO - It's hard to believe we're so close to the holidays, but what may surprise you even more is the fact Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days for firefighters.
That's because every year they see an increase in cooking fires across the city. Too often people will leave food on the stove or in the oven and go off to visit with family and friends. Of course, that's a bad idea because what your cooking can spill out of the pan and quickly start a fire. That's why tonight, firefighters are issuing an early warning.
"Make sure you have a plan and go over your plan. Have your fire extinguisher ready. Have your smoke alarms working. Have all of those fire prevention measures taken care of prior to starting your holiday festivities," El Paso Fire Department Spokesman John Concha said.
Firefighters also say, don't leave food that's cooking unattended, and never put a frozen turkey into a deep fryer.
