Rep Gallego: 'Water is life.'

Over 8000 residents of the small farming community of Fabens will soon get millions to improve their water distribution system.

On Wednesday, Congressman Pete P. Gallego (TX-23) announced that El Paso County Water Control and Improvement District Number 4 received $4,174,000 in federal funds to make improvements to the water distribution system.

Additionally, the Water District has been approved for a $2,261,000 loan and a $1,913,000 grant from the federal government.

In a statement, Congressman Gallego said,  "Water is life...thanks to this funding, more than 8,000 residents in Fabens will have access to better quality drinking water. As someone who grew up in a rural community, I'm well aware of some of the challenges rural residents face. Every child in this country should have access to quality water."

The Water District, which serves 8257 residents, will use the funds to construct a 500,000 gallon welded ground storage tank and booster building which will replace existing structures.

Funds will also be used for a Nano-Filtration system that meets current drinking water standards. Water officials say the existing water quality of Well #5 has exceeded TCEQ's water quality parameters.

Funding for this project comes from the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program.
