FBI, Police Scour Area for "Armed & Dangerous" Shooting Suspect

Rio Arriba County — The New Mexico State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continued their search for Rex Michael Sherwood, considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Police initiated a traffic stop on Mr. Sherwood, Tuesday near Dulce, NM. After a short pursuit, police said Sherwood got out of his vehicle and began to fire an automatic weapon at officers. Sherwood fled into the mountains outside of Monero, east of Dulce, New Mexico.
Sherwood abandoned his vehicle and escaped on foot. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt, a blue jacket and a baseball cap.
State Police and the FBI are actively searching the area for Mr. Sherwood. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Anyone with any information is urged to contact New Mexico State Police at (505)753-2277.
