El Paso - City leaders got an earful about from parents in Far East El Paso.

The Las Tierras Neighborhood Association called this town hall to talk about traffic and school safety issues.

Far East El Paso is one of the fastest growing areas of the city.

Parents say there is so much traffic that it is not safe for their kids to walk to school.

One parent, David Lucero, told us traffic around Sun Ridge Middle School on Zaragosa is especially bad...

"There's a crosswalk there for the kids but the sign is about 100 yards up on the hill and people are doing 50 miles an hour."

The head of the neighborhood association, Rick Falvo, says safety issues in Far East El Paso trump all other concerns...

"We're really concerned about the safety of the streets, especially with the children and the growth of the schools and the homes out here. We're really concerned about the children's safety as they walk to and from school."

About two dozen parents turned out for the town hall.
