Fans of popular Mexican singer Ramon Ayala are taking matters into their own hands, demanding his release in Mexico City on Monday.

The singer has been in jail since Friday when he was arrested during a raid at a drug cartel party outside Mexico City.

It's no secret he was performing at the party.

But now prosecutors are trying to decide if his involvement was also criminal.

Friends, relatives and supporters of the legendary singer protested outside the Attorney General's office in Mexico City.

They demanded the Mexican government release him.

Authorities announced last week he would be jailed for up to 40 days pending an investigation.

Prosecutors are trying to decide whether to charge the Latin Grammy winner with taking part in organized crime, crimes against health and taking illicit money.

Mexican authorities also detained eleven drug cartel members at the party.

Ayala's lawyers have denied the singer's involvement in drug trafficking.
