EL PASO - Family, friends and colleagues of a Texas State Trooper who was killed in the line of duty are saying their final goodbyes.

Trooper Javier Arana Junior's rosary and funeral are set to take place Thursday and Friday.

"Trooper Javier Arana will be greatly missed and never, never, forgotten," Trooper Elizabeth Barney said.

She worked with Trooper Arana for a more than a year in El Paso.

"Trooper Arana had a very outgoing personality. He was willing to assist anybody that needed him," she said. "He had a very contagious personality, always had a smile on his face, always."

It was Saturday morning when Trooper Arana lost his life. Investigators say he was on his way to help another trooper when a Ford Ranger slammed into him on Joe Battle and Bob Hope. His car caught fire, and firefighters had to use the jaws of life to try and save him. Trooper Arana died on scene.

"For us as troopers to have the honor to serve with him, though we're saddened by his loss, we are very grateful to have served with him," Trooper Barney said.

While the pain of Trooper Arana's death is fresh, there are unanswered questions. The two men in the Ford Ranger survived the crash, but they haven't been charged with any wrongdoing. So, it's unclear who was at fault. The D.P.S. is investigating, and Trooper Barney says they do not have a problem releasing the facts of what happened, but they're going to wait.

"Until we have completed the funeral services for Trooper Javier Arana Jr. no further statements will be made," Trooper Barney said.

Trooper Arana leaves behind a wife and five children. As you can imagine it's hard for her to do an interview right now, but through D.P.S. she released a statement. She said Trooper Arana was "the best example of what a man should be. He was a great father and a great husband."
