EL PASO - Looking for something to do outdoors this weekend? Check out the annual Franklin Mountains Poppy Preservation event this Saturday.

There aren't too many poppies on the mountain right now; experts say we didn't get enough rain in the fall and winter.

But you can still learn plenty about the Chihuahua desert, see some Native American performances, and entertain the kids for a few hours.

"The whole event is free; the shuttle is handicap accessible, and it's free, the parking is free, it's a free family fun day," said Judy Ackerman from the Franklin Mountains Wilderness Coalition.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 6 p.m. You can park at El Paso Community College, at 9570 Gateway N Blvd., and there will be shuttles transporting people to and from the parking lot.
