The Federal Aviation Administration has announced it's giving extra medical attention to overweight pilots and and air traffic controllers before they are certified, that's according to a Washington Post article.
The FAA's top medical doctor tells the paper, obstructive sleep apnea is almost universal in obese people and the FAA, of course, doesn't want its most crucial workers getting sleepy on the job. So pilots and controllers who have a body mass index over 40 and a neck circumference of 17 inches or more will be evaluated by a sleep specialist.
