Excitement builds in El Paso over $425 Million Powerball jackpot
EL PASO (KTSM) — The drawing for the $425 million Powerball jackpot is Wednesday night. It's the third largest Powerball jackpot ever! Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed and hoping to be a big winner!
Domasa Garcia, 80, has been playing the Powerball since it started in 1992.
She buys a ticket every Friday and Tuesday.
"It's very good if I win something but I never win," said Garcia.
And this week is no different, with one exception: the jackpot has grown to a whopping $425 million.
Garcia lives in an apartment in Anthony, New Mexico. If she won, she would buy a house and give to her loved ones.
"I have a lot of grandchildren to help everybody in my family," said Garcia. "I hope I win something."
The jackpot is equal to $244.7 million in cash if the winner chooses the cash payout.
To get the jackpot, the winner has to draw six numbers that match all six numbers selected randomly.
The chance of you winning the top prize is lower than 1 in 175 million.
But, with the jackpot the third highest in Powerball history, Miguel Martinez couldn't resist to buy a ticket for the first time.
"I never played but I want to play," said Martinez. "I can buy a house or car you know something for my family."
You have until 8 p.m. Monday to buy a Powerball ticket and it just cost $2.
The drawing is at 9 p.m.
