CANUTILLO - A former teacher who assaulted a 9 year-old Canutillo Elementary student last October pleaded guilty to assault.

Jose Gregory Juarez, 50, was charged with a third degree felony and given 18 months of deferred adjudication, 80 hours of community service and a $100 fine.

Juarez dragged a student in his classroom by the leg and then pulled her by her ponytails to pick her up off of the floor.

After the incident, Juarez was put on administrative leave by CISD and resigned later that year.

As parent we should educate our children to be respectful and kind toward others, no matter what the stituation is. I believe that lack of dicipline is one of the major factors that contribute for students and kids to get themeselves into such a situation. Believe me I have a Great Teenager but not a saint.

Well, as a parent I agree with you TR that no child should be treated that way. However, as a substitute teacher I disagree. There are many great and well behaved students. On the other hand only those people that have been there and seen that! could understand. The kids nowadays are extremly rude, and think that THANKS to their RIGHTS they are invincible. Many have lost morale values and in most cases RESPECT. We must remember: teachers are like our childrens' parents and they must be respected.

Holy Moly! What kind of a teacher does that to a student. No matter how bad that student is there are other ways to deal with it. If that had been my child that teacher and I would be behind bars. He truly has no business being a teacher and is frankly unfit to be a teacher. I pray that he no longer is able to get a job in teaching anywhere in Texas.
