TUCSON, AZ— An update on the accused gunman behind the the Tucson shootings on Thursday revealed that the gunman researched assassins before committing the crime.

Investigative sources have said that Jared Lee Loughner spent time researching famous assassins, such as Harvey Lee Oswald— the gunman behind the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and also researched the death penalty.

Witnesses to the January 8 shooting had also said that Loughner did not try and run after the shootings, and did not try and kill himself either. Loughner had also cellphone and internet messages to some friends saying goodbye.

The whole shooting took about 14 seconds, said investigators, and based on evidence on Loughner's computer, it seems like Loughner planned the shootings.

Loughner pled not guilty earlier this week to the charges against him in relation to the shootings. His attorney, Judy Clarke, is famous for avoiding the death penalty by entering a not-guilty-by-reason of insanity plea for her clients guilty of heinous crimes. One such client was unabomber Ted Kaczinski.
