Jaime O. Perez has announced he will seek the Democratic Party Primary nomination for County Judge of El Paso challenging incumbent Veronica Escobar.

Perez is the second challenger to Escobar. Tuesday, longtime El Paso businesswoman Aliana Apodaca filed her Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer form for the County Judge race.

“El Paso County and our region are at a crossroad. We can continue down the road we've been lead, which has resulted in the loss of public confidence and trust in our elected leaders, taxpayers paying more and more each year, and a lack of vision for our county's future.” Or, we can forge a new path forward, which is more inclusive of our community and their needs.” Apodaca said.

Perez, a fiscal conservative, has expressed concerns over what he calls the “tax and spend” alliance.

"Veronica Escobar has consistently supported and raised taxes, fees and is pushing for creating two additional layers of bureaucracy, County Manager and a Budget Office; yet the County was wholly unable to effectively respond to flooding in the county," said Perez.

Escobar says she has been proud to serve as El Paso’s County Judge, and will officially kick off her campaign efforts tonight, at Hope & Anchor, 4012 N. Mesa.

Primary Election day is March 4th, 2014.
