EPPD: Put Crime in Perspective

EL PASO - While the local murder rate has skyrocketed, The El Paso Police Department says it is important to look at overall crime and put it in perspective.

The city has seen a decrease in six of seven crime categories so far this year.

Murders are up 1,100 percent - one murder last year compared to 12 this year. The categories with decreases are burglary of vehicles (-11%), vehicle thefts (-25%), larceny (-15%), burglary (-11%), assault (-6%) and robbery (-5%).
