EL PASO, TX — The El Paso Police Department wants you to be safe this holiday season. Earlier today they partnered with Bassett Place for their 9th annual "It's the Season to be Safe" fair. Shoppers picked up some safety tips. First and most importantly, never leave your children alone.
Lock your doors and windows.
Don't leave gifts out in the open.
Mark your valuables with your driver's license number.
Pick up all mail and newspapers.
Never give any info out over the telephone.
Keep an eye on your children.
Pay with credit/debit cards.
Keep an eye on your bags.
Approach vehicle w/ key in hand.
Carry your purse close to your body.
Lock it or lose it.
Use any anti theft devices.
Do not leave valuables where anyone can see them.
Park in well lit areas.
"Remind people the importance of staying safe because many times people become pre-occupied trying to get those last minute gifts, trying to make sure they get everything on their lists that they forget the basics," said El Paso Police Officer Javier Sambrano.
Officer Sambrano says forgetting the basics creates an opportunity for burglars and other criminals to take advantage.
