The El Paso Independent School District's Board of Trustees reinstated several educators who were placed on paid leave after an audit accused them of participating in the EPISD cheating scheme.

After hearing more than 4 hours of public comments at last night's meeting, Trustees reinstated three principals and four assistant principals to their positions. Kristine Ferret, Grace Runkles, Randall Woods, Manuel Duran, John Tanner, Michael Salcedo, and Adrian Bustillos will all return to work immediately.

Board members did not renew Luis Loya's contract, Principal of the Center for Career and Technology Education.

Hundreds of parents, students, and members of the community came out to support the educators and were elated with the Board's decisions. They burst out into applause as each individual was reinstated, and many became emotional as the Board voted.

"I think that it's really exciting for all of us. I'm just so proud and I'm just so honored, and I'm just so glad that we can get back to work together, and move on and get going tomorrow morning," said a newly reinstated Randall Woods, Principal at Burges High School.

"This is our community. The Board feels very strongly about serving this community, and I think that the decisions tonight reflected that," said EPISD Board President, Isela Castañon-Williams.

In addition to reinstating the employees, Board members ordered EPISD Interim Superintendent Vernon Butler to order those educators to implement a 2 year growth plan at their schools to correct their violations.

The 8 educators were among 18 who were named in Weaver's audit report as participants in the cheating scheme. No word yet on the status of the other employees' contracts.

With all the nonsense going on with EPISD, why hasn't one of your great news investigators made an appointment to interview Lorenzo Garcia? He's already in jail so why would he not reveal who he knows took part in the cheating scheme. Send Noreen Jaramillo, she will do it.
