EPISD reps head to Austin for Appeal
EL PASO — Reps from the El Paso Independent School District will be headed to Austin this week to appeal the Texas Education Agency's decision to strip the school board of its power.
In December, T.E.A. Commissioner michael williams made the decision to move forward with removing the board's decision-making power and appointing a new board of managers in light of the cheating scandal that started at Bowie High.
Board President Isela Castañon-Williams, Interim Superintendent Vernon Butler and District counsel Anthony Fafi will attend Thursday's appeal, arguing the TEA doesn't have the grounds to remove the board.
The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Austin.
