EPISD to decide possible new Insights Museum location Tuesday

El Paso Independent School District Board of Managers hold the cards in an agreement that could find the Insights Science Museum its new home.

On Tuesday, October 15, the EPISD Board of Managers will vote on whether or not to approve an agreement between EPISD and Insights allowing the science center to reopen its doors in El Paso as soon as Spring of 2014.

The proposed location, the Alamo Elementary School, has been vacant for seven years and is currently suffering from weathering and lack of use. The historic school located in the heart of the Segundo Barrio, 500 South Hill St., had been a cornerstone of the Segundo Barrio community before being shuttered in 2007.

Insights Board of Directors are anxious and excited to bring Insights back to continuing service to the El Paso Community after their building after their previous site on Santa Fe street was demolished to make way for the new baseball stadium.

“There is a void that needs to be filled. It’s critical we engage our youth in fun science and math programs, integrate art to stir imagination and do so at Insights. Our goal is a community learning science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) in exciting ways that connect to the rest of the world and inspire our own kids to become future leaders solving real world problems,” stated Nate Robinson, Insights El Paso Science Center President.

EPISD will vote to approve the location during their 5:00 p.m. Tuesday meeting at their central office location, 6531 Boeing Dr.
