EL PASO – The El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees could vote to fire, or transfer, El Paso High School principal Luis Liano.
"At this point on the agenda we are looking at his situation," said board president Isela Castañon-Williams.
Tuesday afternoon we asked Castañon-Williams about the item on the board meeting agenda regarding Luis Liano's employment that reads, “Employment Status, Reassignment, Compensation for 2011‐12, and/or Notice of Proposed Termination of El Paso High School Principal.”
It's the last item on the agenda and will come up in closed session.
"When we go to the review situations that might negatively impact a positive educational environment, we look a the whole picture: the good and the bad," said Castañon-Williams.
While she wouldn't get too specific about what situations were under review, one situation that may have concerned district leaders happened in May.
That's when students at El Paso High organized a walkout to protest Principal Liano. The students claimed Liano gave unfair treatment to certain organizations on campus.
"He's showing favoritism to sports instead of academics and it's not fair at all," said one student at the time.
Students were also upset that a popular substitute teacher was let go.
That protest is one of the issues that may come up behind closed doors during the meeting Tuesday night. Either way it's up to the board to determine what action to take regarding Liano's employment.
"We are going to, as a board, hear what the administration has to say about the results of the review and hear their recommendations, then act" said Castañon-Williams.
We were unable to get a hold of Liano for comment.
