EPISD appoints new principals for Andress High School and Hughey Elementary
At a meeting late Tuesday night, Trustees of the El Paso Independent School District hired Adan Lopez as the new principal of Hughey High School, and promoted Dr. Carolyn Legoretta as principal of Andress High School.
Dr. Legorreta is assistant principal at Andress High School and began her career with EPISD in the 70s.
She has a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Master of Education degree in Science from UTEP. She received her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from NMSU.
Lopez is assistant principal of MacArthur Elementary and has been with EPISD since 1994.
He has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management, and a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling from UTEP.
He has also been a US Navy Reserve officer.
Interim superintendent Vernon Butler says Trustees all agree Lopez and Legoretta are the right fit for each position.
"It's always exciting to see colleagues that have been out in the field in different positions, get positions as the principal in order to go on and lead their own schools," said Butler.
The Board does not know when each principal will begin their new position but hopes it will be soon.
Butler says there were at least 10 candidates who applied for each position.
