EPFD responding to large brush fire across from El Paso High

Update: As of 5:43, a spokesman with the El Paso Fire Department says that the brush fire is under control and fire crews are beginning to pickup and are controlling hot spots in the area.

El Paso Firefighters are on the scene of a large brush fire on the side of a hill near the intersection of Schuster and Virginia St.

At approximately 4:52 p.m. EPFD were dispatched to a brush fire across the street from El Paso HS, initially, 6-7 units were dispatched to the scene according to a fire dispatch supervisor. At the time, no

At approximately 5:12 p.m. the fire was upgraded to a condition 3 fire and additional units were dispatched to battle the blaze. There are currently 10 fire units on the scene with 22 fire personnel on the scene.

EPFD says that they are currently in a defensive mode, in an attempt to protect property in the area.
