EPFD opens new fire station in East El Paso
EL PASO (KTSM) — The El Paso Fire Department was celebrating the opening of its 36th fire station.
The new 8,700 square foot firehouse sits on Edgemere and R.C. Poe in East El Paso.
They held a ribbon cutting ceremony and firefighters gave tours to dozens of local residents.
The fire station will make a big impact on the area.
"The next closest fire station is a mile away and as you know the city has expanded so far out there,” said Captain David Zeiger. “It's a long time in getting to them and we wanted to shorten that because the sooner we get to them to help them, the better it'll be for them and the quicker they'll be able to get taken care of."
The fire station is the first to integrate the public art program into its landscape with a steel structure titled Water by New York Artist, Ilan Averbuch.
