EPFD Begins Recruiting for Training Class
Workforce Solutions Also Holds Veterans Job Fair
EL PASO — The El Paso Fire Department said Friday that it will begin accepting applications for its 84th Training Academy Class on Monday, July 23.
In addition to applying on the City’s website, Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande said they will be hosting a job fair for veterans on Monday, July 23 at their downtown location located at 300 East Main from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A new coordinated effort to actively seek and hire veterans began with the terms of the SAFER grant awarded to the El Paso Fire Department, a major component that assisted the Department in receiving the $2.12 million grant.
“We are committed to following the terms of the grant which allows us to increase the number of trained firefighters in the community at no cost to tax payers,” Fire Chief Otto Drozd said. “We have a unique opportunity to reach out to our diverse community which includes a large percentage of veterans,” Drozd added.
Organizers said that the job posting is not only for veterans and anyone can apply as long as the minimum qualifications are met.
All qualified, interested individuals are encouraged to apply starting at 7 a.m. Monday, July 23 using the City’s website at http://home.elpasotexas.gov. Click on “City Jobs” under “How Do I?” and then click on “Firefighter Trainee” to apply.
The El Paso Fire Department is looking to add a total of 77 firefighters in Fiscal Year 2013.
