EPCSO: Woman charged with DWI had child in the car
Fabens, TX (KTSM) — A 38-year-old woman was arrested by El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies after they say she tried to flee a traffic stop while driving while intoxicated with her 4-year-old son in the car.
Deputies were dispatched to a family violence call in the 100 block of NE K in Fabens, TX on Tuesday night around 6:15 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they learned that Sara Macias, 38, had left the residence in a green Hyundai Elantra with her 4-year-old son in the car and they believed she was intoxicated at the time she fled the home.
A short time later, Macias' Elantra was spotted heading east on Horizon Blvd. The Deputy attempted to pull over Macias by turning on his lights, but she allegedly did not stop. A Texas DPS Trooper who was assisting the Sheriff's Deputy eventually used vehicle stop sticks to stop Macias' Elantra in the 15800 block of Horizon Blvd.
Macias identified herself to officers, and was subsequently found to be intoxicated. During their investigation, they determined that Macias had given Deputies a fake name. She was arrested and charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, failure to identify, and driving while intoxicated with a child younger than 15. Her bonds totaled $19,500.
A search of Macias' criminal records show that she was convicted of driving while intoxicated with a child younger than 15 in July of 2013, which stemmed from an arrest in April of 2013. She was sentenced to five years probation.
