El Paso County Sheriff’s officials said a 5-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and charged with Improper Sexual Activity with a person in custody and tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation began after a woman came forward and claimed that Deputy Reuben Rodriguez, 27, solicited her for a sexual act during the course of her transportation to the county Jail, the morning of Saturday, May 3rd.

According to court records, the woman was in custody for traffic warrants and drug possession. She also admitted to illegally having prescription pills. Rodriguez allegedly agreed to dispose of the pills in exchange for a kiss. After refusing, the deputy allegedly reminded her she could face felony charges. That's when the woman agreed to oral sex.

Deputy Rodriguez resigned from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office as of the morning of Tuesday, May 6th and was arrested later in the afternoon.

“Not only are the actions of this individual criminal, but they are outrageous and will not be tolerated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office”, stated Sheriff Richard Wiles.

Wiles is asking anyone else who may have a similar complaint against Deputy Reuben Rodriguez to contact his office at 538-2276.

Rodriguez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on $5,000 bond.
