EL PASO - Environmental awareness begins with you.

That was the message at an environmental summit in Central El Paso this morning.

The theme of this year's summit:  Renewing Your Neighborhood.

Pamela Aguirre with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says the summit stressed personal accountability.

"The whole summit has been built around a grassroots effort that community along with elected officials and state and local agencies so that we get some interaction and some dialogue and so that it's not all about us telling someone else what to do but that the community becomes part of the solution to the problems."

The summit included a who's who of politicians including State Senator Eliot Shapleigh, El Paso County Commissioner Veronica Escobar, Mayor Pro-Tem Emma Acosta and TCEQ Commissioner Carlos Rubinstein.
