EL PASO- The holidays are a great time to apply for open job positions because many employers are looking for seasonal workers. There are plenty of jobs available and in many cases, employers will take you on permanently.

The unemployment rate in Texas is 8.4 and the national average is 9. The unemployment rate in El Paso is 10.

A job seeker who has been out of work for more than a year said he would definitely be open to fill a seasonal position.

"Like most people, I'd rather find something permanent and steady based on a solid income but at this juncture, we'll take anything," Raymond Chavira said.

Workforce Solutions said many seasonal positions are still available, all you have to do is visit one of their centers.

"It's not too late to apply for seasonal positions. They can be positions in retail cashiers or stokers or even tax preparers as we gear up for the tax season," said Joe Tapia with the Workforce Solutions of the Upper Rio Grande.

Workforce Solutions provides help to put your resume together and get you ready for interviews. All their services are free.

"Depending on the quality of work that the employer sees, many times the employer might go ahead and say, 'Hey this is a part time job, we're going to take you full time,'" Tapia said.
