EL PASO- The winter holidays don't have to mean higher utility bills.

Contrary to popular belief, Christmas lights don't contribute that much to an increase in your electric bill. Of course, safely using them can avoid further problems. Make sure you check your cords, don't overload outlets and don't staple the lights to the house. With that said, The El Paso Electric Company has some suggestions to lower your bills this holiday season.

Set your T-stat to 68º, check the insulation in the walls and in your attic and make sure the ceiling fan is reversed from the summer mode. That is, the fan is blowing downward, forcing the heat back down to the floor.
