EL PASO - There are a lot of elections coming up in El Paso County, but we can't move forward with any of them until a new re-districting map is approved.

U.S. Supreme Court Justices threw out the latest map, and that means you won't be voting for a while.

"It's a massive hold up for us," El Paso County Elections Administrator Javier Chacon said.

Justices tossed the map because it's not clear how the new district lines were selected.

"Without those lines we cannot proceed to conduct our March primaries, which would have been on March sixth," Chacon said.

It's also holding up the re-call election, and Chacon says voters might not head to the polls until June or later. Aside from election dates, the re-districting could end up changing El Paso voter precincts and some people's congressional representation.

"I had a couple of phone calls in regards to that, if they have to go vote in San Antonio. I said 'no, your polling place will still be here in El Paso.' You'll still vote here in El Paso. The thing is your congressman will probably live out of San Antonio or any other county," Chacon said.

Now it's just a matter of waiting, even for the county elections department, and Chacon says that's also holding up voter registration cards.

"I ask the people of El Paso, and the borders of El Paso, to bear with us."

The maps are now being re-drawn by three Federal Judges in San Antonio. There's no word on how long that will take.
