Elderly Go "Home For The Holidays"

December 25, 2008 - 4:12pm

If you've ever ridden in an ambulance, more than likely you were taken to a hospital. But this year, for some folks, ambulance transport was the only way to get "Home for the Holidays."

For Arley Harty being loaded up and strapped in to an ambulance was a gift from Elite Medical Transport.

"It's actually something good," EMT, Rocky Melendez said. "We're bringing them home."

This ambulance company is transporting folks, who normally would spend their Christmas in a nursing home, free of charge to be with their families.

"With his Parkinson's it does freeze up his muscles and stuff." Harty's daughter, Renee Prince said."It makes it very very hard to move him, to make him stand up to make him bend things. Getting in and out of cars it's getting almost impossible."

Grandpa Harty made it home just in time to open presents with his grandchildren. They all agree Santa's best present, this year was having Grandpa home, even if it is just for one day.
