El Paso voters have spoken and now the Sun City has a new mayor. Oscar Leeser defeated City Representative Steve Ortega on June 15th and now we find out more about what happens next for the city.

The citizens of El Paso voted in Leeser as their new mayor. The current mayor, John Cook, says the two men will be working on a transition plan. "Oscar said he wasn't planning on changing anything we were doing, which I think is good news," Cook said.

The mayor-elect has a lot of work on his plate. From the new Triple-A baseball stadium to what he says is his main focus. "Our main goal is to bring jobs to El Paso and we ... we always talked about that," Leeser told us.

Steve Ortega, who currently sits on City Council as District 7's Representative has conceded the mayoral race. He called the mayor-elect congratulating him once the news broke out. "[I] Want to make sure he has a great next four years in the community," Ortega explained.

Congressman Beto O'Rourke was rooting for Ortega. "I think El Paso is a much better place because of his service," O'Rourke told us. But even though his top choice lost, he said he's throwing his support behind Leeser now.

"I want Oscar to be a very successful mayor," O'Rourke explained. "I want to do everything in my power to help him be successful because if he's successful, El Paso is successful," he added.

"We have a lot to offer in our city and we need to make sure we take advantage of that," the mayor-elect told us.

As for Steve Ortega's plans, he said he will immediately take a vacation and he may practice law. He hasn't decided if he will run again in 2017.

Mayor-elect Oscar Leeser will be sworn in on June 24th.

yep he has a lot on his plate...look at his predecessor, Cook the crook and all the rest. I hope he does the opposite of what was wrong with the mess. I wish him well.
