EL PASO — The El Paso WIC program was promoting healthy eating during National Nutrition Month®, an information campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. "Get Your Plate In Shape" was this year's theme and focused on balancing the calories still enjoying desired foods.
“There are so many things we focus on and spend a lot of time making decisions about during our daily lives, but when it comes to what we put in our bodies, too many times, we simply go for what’s fast and convenient. We want to change the mindset in El Paso so that we all begin to stop and consider the long-term effects of our food choices,” said Celeste Care, Senior Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian, Department of Public Health.
The events are as follows:

The Department of Health said there were four easy ways to get started on the path of a healthier plate:
• Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
• Switch to low-fat or fat-free milk.
• Make at least half your grains whole.
• Vary your protein choices.
Food demonstration classes at WIC centers will be held throughout the month. To learn more about the WIC Program and all of the other services provided by the Department of Public Health, please visit: www.elpasotexas.gov/health.
