El Pasoans Attend Save-a-Life Event
EL PASO – It was a full house today, at a safety event held in honor of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and all those involved in the Tucson tragedy that took place in January.
More than 100 El Pasoans showed up to get CPR training from the American Red Cross. Classes were held on Admiral St. in East El Paso.
Participants learned how to perform CPR, control external bleeding and manage shock. Folks from the Red Cross emphasized that these are essential skills to learn.
“This is a great awareness building class to teach people simple skills that they might be called upon to use at any time,” said Mark Matthys, the Executive Director of the American Red Cross chapter in El Paso.
“You never know when you're going to encounter a situation where you might have the need to use CPR,” said safety instructor, Maria Sanchez.
Different Red Cross chapters held classes at more than 100 locations around the country.
