El Pasoans are vaccinated at a higher rate than the rest of the state and country for the Human Papillomavirus, according to a news release from the City of El Paso Dept. of Public Health.

The Dept. of State Health Services collected data and found El Paso County's HPV vaccine rate is at 45.1 percent, compared to the state average of 32.3 percent and national rate of 34.8 percent.

The HPV vaccine protects against cervical cancer.

Health officials in Dallas County, which had the lowest rate in the state, are coming to El Paso to consult with the El Paso Immunization Program.

The health dept. extended that program's hours.
