El Paso on the road to becoming bicycle friendly
(El Paso) KTSM — Now joining Austin and San Antonio as one of only three cities in the lone star state, is the Sun City.
El Paso has been selected for a consultation with the "League of American Bicyclists."
Stephen Clark, the league's expert on bicycle planning and infrastructure, spoke with city and TXDOT officials, local business owners, and other stakeholders during a luncheon on Monday about what El Paso can do to make the city more bike friendly.
"Really what this comes down to is giving people choices,” said Stephen Clark. “People don't want to always just drive everywhere and there are a lot of people who don't have access to a car and they need safe conditions."
During Monday’s luncheon, they discussed the possibility of more bike lanes in downtown El Paso and reducing wider car lanes, so that bike lanes could be added.
